One year prior Huawei announced its first-ever clamshell foldable touchscreen smartphone and now they come up with their upgraded variant named Pocket S. It is similar to P50 with a circular notification display and a camera bump on its outside. The new smartphone comes with a massive camera, one in the count, and an ultimate processor with an amazing starting price (approx. $1,199).

That price means the Pocket S neatly undercuts its main foldable clamshell competitor, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 (which was priced at around ¥7,499, or $1,025, in China, according to Gizmochina). But continuing US sanctions against Huawei lead to Pocket S faces technical limitations including a lack of support for 5G networks. And if it ever gets a release outside China, don’t expect any Google apps or services to be natively available.
In China Huawei recently held an event, where they revealed its latest foldable phone. Huawei has come with an affordable foldable phone, the Huawei Pocket S. This smartphone is cheaper than its counterpart in the market, the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It is not only cheaper but also the most affordable foldable phone out there in the market.
Specifications of Huawei Pocket S
- The inner screen is a 6.9” OLED with a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels.
- It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 1440Hz PWM, as well as a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
- The chipset is a Snapdragon 778G, limited to LTE connectivity.
- The selfie camera is nested inside a punch hole and has the same 10.7 MP sensor as the P50 Pocket.
- The cover hosts a 40 MP shooter with an RYYB sensor and f/1.8 lens, assisted by a 13 MP ultrawide-angle camera.
- The 32MP sensor from the P50 Pocket is replaced with a sensor for laser AF.
Huawei Pocket S is a more affordable clamshell with Snapdragon 778G chipset. But it is a disappointment that is not 5G compatible due to US sanctions on Huawei and has a user interface of Harmony OS 3.0 instead of Android which means that the phone will initially be available in China only.
